Earlier this month the Ninth Circuit issued a scathing report referring now former US District Judge Joshua Kindred for impeachment. GEL attorneys Kevin Owen and Rachel Petro represented the brave victim who spoke out about Mr. Kindred’s harassment and extreme judicial misconduct. Bloomberg Law reporters Jacqueline Thomsen and Ben Penn recently published important follow up reporting on our client’s harrowing ordeal.
Our client blew the whistle to the U.S. Attorney in Alaska about Kindred’s inappropriate sexual relationship with a federal prosecutor over two years ago. Rather than take our client’s whistleblower disclosures seriously, U.S. Attorney Lane Tucker dismissed it as “gossip” and allowed the conflicted prosecutor to remain in her job appearing in Kindred’s court room.
Media reports show the Alaska Federal Public Defender’s Office is now digging through and seeking appropriate review over cases that this conflicted prosecutor was involved in before Kindred. This failure of leadership by U.S. Attorney Tucker will impact the defendants in those cases as well as any victims of crimes prosecuted by the conflicted prosecutor. Taxpayers will foot the bill.
Rather than provide our client with an appropriate response to her victimization by former judge Kindred, the Department of Justice abruptly ended her employment. Our client deserved better, and we will continue to fight for her rights as we litigate her claims.
